In The Family: A Slice of Life

At Along Came
Carol, it’s a family affair: Carol became passionate
about the art of cooking by watching her mother prepare
meals for a family of seven every day. Carol’s
Tuscany-born grandmother had a hand in her career choice, as
well, by showing her how to bake bread the
"Italian" way.
Baking
Bread
Carol’s skills
took her to Hay Day, where she worked as a bread-maker.
But earning her bread by baking it at 5:00 a.m. every day
took its toll, so Carol enrolled in art school. Until
wanderlust hit and the 21-year-old changed course again,
this time heading East.
Picking
Grapes
For 18 months,
Carol toured England, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and
Greece. "I picked grapes and worked where I
could," says the intrepid chef.
In Europe,
Carol’s passion for food was intensified. There, the
seeds for her ethnic-style cooking were planted. When she
was invited to dinner, she’d spend time with the cooks.
"I’d watch and learn from my friends’
mothers."
Coming
Home
Can’t go home
again? Carol, who grew up in Southport, CT proves that
saying wrong: She opened a popular catering/gourmet deli
shop in Westport, CT, then moved the business back home in
1997 to its current location: her old stomping ground —
Fairfield.
That same year she
married Mark Mojcher who joins her behind the counter and
helps manage the catering side of the business.
